Puratos, a global leader in innovative food solutions for the bakery, patisserie and chocolate industry, is taking a bold step towards reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. Within the framework of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Puratos will set net-zero science-based targets. The initiative assists companies in establishing science-based emissions reduction targets, providing guidance and resources to promote best practices, with the aim to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions no later than 2050.
This commitment builds upon Puratos's existing sustainability goals outlined in their 'Commitments to You and to Future Generations’ and underscores Puratos's dedication to achieving tangible sustainability goals that extend beyond its operational boundaries. Notably, Puratos is dedicated to achieving carbon-neutrality in its operations by 2025, covering both direct and indirect energy-related emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2).
Puratos's proactive approach aligns with the SBTi's framework, guiding companies to set ambitious and science-based climate goals. This process will build on past achievements, including carbon-neutrality certifications for multiple production sites, a complete transition to 100% renewable energy, and the recognition of Belgium's first carbon-neutral chocolate factory at their Belcolade facility. In 2023, Puratos also further solidified its commitments by securing carbon-neutrality certification for Chocolante 60Days, a flagship chocolate product.
"As we advance our sustainability agenda, we invite our partners, customers, and stakeholders to join us on this journey towards a more sustainable future," stated Francesca Angiulli, Sustainability Director at Puratos.
The commitment to emissions science-based climate goals signifies Puratos's understanding of the interconnected nature of its environmental impact. Collaborating with its partners and suppliers, Puratos actively engages in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout its entire value chain. This collaborative approach includes the measurement of emissions, promotion of sustainable practices, and an emphasis on transparency regarding the carbon footprint of raw materials and the entire supply chain.
By combining strategic goals and cooperative efforts, Puratos is actively advancing towards a more sustainable future in line with its commitment to the well-being of both people and the planet.
