Puratos Uses Well-Established Certifications and Labeling Frameworks

At Puratos, we are committed to continuously improve our sustainability performance, to benchmark it towards the best practices implemented on the market and to collaborate with the whole value chain to improve our society. This is why we make use of well-established certification schemes and labelling frameworks – to reliably measure our impact, transparently communicate about it with all our stakeholders, and benefit from and contribute to the improvement of global practices and expertise.

Responsible Sourcing

Cacao-Trace

Cacao-Trace supports initiatives that contribute to responsible cocoa production and long-term value creation across the cocoa supply chain. For over a decade, Cacao-Trace has addressed the critical challenges of the cocoa chain, creating value through great-tasting cocoa by mastering fermentation—a value that is then shared with cocoa farmers, significantly improving their lives and the lives of their families.

RSPO: Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil

RSPO, a global non-profit organization, is dedicated to bringing together stakeholders from across the palm oil supply chain. Their mission is to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil. As part of this initiative, they work with various entities, one of which is Puratos. Puratos, holding the license number 2-1152-20-000-00, is an active participant in this mission, contributing to the sustainable future of palm oil production.

Rainforest Alliance

Rainforest Alliance certification helps farmers produce better crops, adapt to climate change, increase their productivity, and reduce costs. These benefits provide companies with a steady and secured supply of certified products. At Puratos, we incorporate Rainforest Alliance-certified cocoa and hazelnut into our supply chain.

Fairtrade

Fairtrade's approach enables farmers and workers to have more control over their lives. Fairtrade supports and challenges businesses and governments, while connecting farmers and workers with the people who buy their products. At Puratos, we incorporate Fairtrade-certified cocoa, sugar, vanilla, and nuts into our supply chains.

Forest Stewardship Council

FSC offers sustainable sourcing solutions that supports responsible forestry. They are the leader in sustainable forest management, operating the world’s most rigorous and trusted forest certification system. At Puratos, we use FSC for our packaging materials.

Environment

Carbon Disclosure Project

CDP is the gold standard for environmental reporting , running a global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage and improve their environmental impacts. Puratos scores B both for Water Management and Climate Change.

Carbon Neutral Certified Sites

Carbon Neutral Certified Sites

In 2025, 20 Puratos sites held a carbon neutral label. These sites are certified under the CarbonNeutral® certification programme.

Supply Chain best practices

SEDEX

Sedex is the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange – a not-for-profit organization dedicated to driving improvements in responsible and ethical business practices in global supply chains. The Sedex tool gives us a better understanding of our supply chain and helps us monitor and assess the sustainability performance of our suppliers, as well as the associated social, environmental and business ethics risks. Puratos is a member of SEDEX.

The Cocoa & Forests Initiative

The Cocoa & Forests Initiative

A public-private partnership organized by the World Cocoa Foundation, IDH – the Sustainable Trade Initiative, and The Prince of Wales’s International Sustainability Unit, in partnership with the Governments of Ivory Coast and Ghana, to end deforestation and restore forest areas. Puratos has been a signatory since 2020. We follow the CFI’s rigorous Frameworks for Action to ensure our supply chain is forest-positive and deforestation-free, and that our actions are verifiable and time-bound.

Beyond Chocolate

Beyond Chocolate

A dedicated partnership focused on addressing challenges like deforestation, child labor, and farmer income. As a member since 2018, Puratos ensures that by the end of 2025, all our chocolate produced or traded in Belgium meets high certification standards or our Cacao-Trace criteria. Our leadership is reflected by the election of our Global Cocoa Sourcing Manager to the initiative's Steering Committee in 2025.

A global non-profit that works on the ground with businesses to produce commodities while simultaneously restoring natural ecosystems. Following a successful collaboration in 2023, Puratos became a full member in 2025. We work specifically with Earthworm’s experts to reinforce our commitments to responsible palm oil sourcing.

This international civil society organization brings over 55 years of experience to developing solutions that foster more resilient communities. Operating across five continents in over 40 countries, Solidaridad works directly with people throughout the value chain, focusing specifically on supporting smallholder farmers and workers. Our collaboration focuses on improving agricultural practices, strengthening livelihoods, and assisting these communities in meeting rigorous sustainability and certification requirements.
