The 1st World of Bread
The first World of Bread "taste and nutrition", an initiative of the Association of Ambassadors of Bread took place at the SIRHA International Hotel, Catering and Food Trade Fair which took place on January 20th and 21st 2007, in the French city of Lyon.
This was a new competition, with nine countries competing, each represented by a baker and his assistant: Algeria, Belgium, China, South Corea, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan and Switzerland. The aim was to select the country offering the best ideas on different themes proposed by the organisers, notably tastes, flavours and presentation in the "nutrition and health" area. Competitors had 8 hours to take from the oven several types of product in the "Breads of the World", "Viennoiserie" and "Artistic Creation" categories.
In the "bakery - nutrition and health" category, participants were invited to explain the nutritional properties of the different breads to a jury composed of several personalities from the world of bread, gastronomy and nutrition. Baked products needed to be have an excellent taste and be healthy as well.
The "nutrition and health" prize was sponsored by Puratos. As pioneer in the "nutrition and health" aspects of food, in 2005 we created a new range of products known internationally as "Great Taste and Wellness." Presenting the "nutrition and health" prize at this fair was a concrete way for Puratos to raise people's awareness of the importance of this new challenge (and this new market) to food professionals and to position Puratos as the ideal partner.
