Energy and carbon reduction

Energy and carbon reduction As a global producer in the food industry, we are committed to guaranteeing the sustainability of our business, with regards to both the environmental and the social aspects of our activities. This is why we have taken a comprehensive and result-oriented sustainability approach.

Our objectives

To reduce the CO2 footprint of the Puratos Group.

Some examples

  • We implement worldwide Energy Saving Plans & Carbon Reduction Programmes, including the introduction and distribution in all our subsidiaries the Puratos Group Energy Handbook with guidelines and best practices for energy savings in various domains. Also, 75% of the energy consumers within Puratos Group have been audited resulting in many energy & water saving projects.

  • We increase green energy purchases and analyse and study opportunities for renewable energy for feasibility wherever possible.

  • We invest in less energy consuming machines and ensure the efficiency of production machines and processes in order to reduce energy waste – including compressed air systems, lighting systems, cooling systems, steam systems, high efficiency motors etc.

  • We innovate in less energy-demanding products (e.g. by decreasing the oven temperature at our customers).

  • We promote environmentally friendly cars via a green car policy (taking into account CO2 emissions and fuel consumption) and promote the use of public transport, bicycle... amongst Puratos employees.

  • We strive for excellent environmental and sustainable building design at the design phase of all new building projects.

Note:

  • Puratos’ footprint is globally low or reduced due to our 53 local production units in 42 countries.

  • Over the last 3 years, more than 500 unique energy-saving actions have been taken worldwide.

  • Since 2009, we launched a global carbon footprint initiative aiming to measure our performance per ton of product produced.
