The roots of the Puratos group
1919
Puratos is founded in Brussels in 1919 to create, produce and sell ingredients to bakers and patissiers.
1923
Puratos launches Pura-Malté, a branded bread based on wheat germs, toasted in a machine invented by Professor Picard, famous for his bathyscaphe.
1944-46
The age of the pioneers: François Van Belle and Pierre Demanet join Puratos.
1953
Creation of T 500, the first complete improver which marks a turning point in the history of Puratos.
1968
Puratos moves to Groot-Bijgaarden on the outskirts of Brussels, Belgium.
1970
The second Van Belle and Demanet generation join the company during the 1970s.
In 1975, the two families acquire a majority shareholding in the group.
1975 also sees the launch of S500, a powder-based improver. It has grown into a real flagship product for the group and is still the leader today.
Puratos opens subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Canada and the USA.
1980
Diversification into chocolate with the creation of Belcolade, into compound coatings, glazes and margarine.
At the end of May 1984, Puratos opens its first Quality Center in Groot-Bijgaarden. Prince Albert (today, King of the Belgians) inaugurates the center. A few years later, the Research Center is opened.
Puratos establishes itself in the Far East and in the rest of Latin America.
Puratos creates subsidiaries in France, Germany and in central and eastern Europe.
1990
Creation of the Puratos Group in 1997. Families, first from Spain and then from Mexico and Chile become shareholders.
Diversification into sourdoughs: the Sapore Range is launched in 1995.
Diversification into enzymes, following more than 10 years of R&D .
Diversification into fruit-based products and vegetable creams.
2000
Creation of the "O-tentic " range, a completely new type of product allowing traditional breads to be made - a significant innovation in the history of the group.
Puratos acquires PatisFrance with the aim of progressively becoming the world reference for French-style patisserie products.
With the dawn of the 21st century, an awareness of environmental responsibility grows rapidly around the globe. Puratos commits itself to this fight for a better world.
Creation of the group's structure as it is today.
Launch of " Acti-Plus " technology which gives our improvers technological supremacy.
Launch of Sublimo cold setting glazes which win the innovation prize at Fevia (Belgian Federation for the Food Industry).
The group intensifies its approach to nutrition and creates the "Great Taste and Wellness" concept.
